Grace on The City

It’s easy to get involved in the Grace community on The City! Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions below for more information. Or to request an invitation, visit our one of the kiosks in our lobby or stop by the Information Tent after our gathering on Sunday morning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR WEBSITE AND THE CITY?

Our public website is how we communicate with people who aren't currently attending Grace. The City, on the other hand, is a private website where our community engages with one another online. The City allows people from Grace to communicate with each other, share prayer requests, plan events, suggest opportunities to serve, and more.

IS THE CITY THE ONLY WAY TO GET CHURCH NEWS AND UPDATES?

Not exactly. We send out seasonal emails to guests, newcomers, and church friends, and we share a lot of information in print on Sunday mornings. But The City gives you weekly updates, and allows you to interact with other people from Grace in response to prayers, needs, and upcoming events.

DO I HAVE TO JOIN THE CITY?

You don't need to join The City to participate in our Sunday gatherings. But if you're a part of a Life Group, a second hour group, or any one of the many ministries Grace shares together, The City is where those groups may be communicating with you when you're not meeting in-person.

IS THE CITY PRIVATE AND SECURE?

Privacy is one of the most important aspects of how The City functions. Nothing is visible in a group to anyone outside of that group unless it's shared publicly from the beginning—and if it is, the post will say "Shared" right at the top. This makes The City a safe place to do things like share a prayer request within a group.

WILL THE CITY OVERLOAD MY EMAIL INBOX?

It can. But you can change that. Every group, including the overarching church group that everyone's a part of, has its own email settings. We recomment the "New Things" setting for the Grace Brethren Church group, "All Things" for groups you personally manage, and the default "Daily Digest" setting for everyone else.

If you have a smart phone, you can also use The City app to get push notifications whenever someone posts in one of your groups. In other words, how and when you keep up with City communications is entirely up to you.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Visit the Information Tent on the plaza after our service on Sunday, and we'll send an invitation straight to your inbox. Or request an invitation through our welcome form here.

HOW DO I JOIN A GROUP ON THE CITY?

Once you have a City account, you can search for a group you're a part of with the search bar in the upper right corner of the City's main page, or browse the full group list under the "Groups" tab on the left.

WHO CAN SET UP AN ACCOUNT?

The City is designed for active church participants. If you attend Grace regularly, it's for you. You must have your own email address, and if you're under 18, must be at least 13 years of age and have parental consent to join.

CAN I SHARE AN EMAIL ADDRESS WITH MY SPOUSE?

Some people try, but there are a few problems with that. First, every City account is tied to a single personal identity. You can't join a group as two people with only one profile. And you can't RSVP to an event for two when you're listed as a single account. It gets even trickier with our Children's Check-In system on Sunday mornings, which is integrated with The City.

The biggest problem with using a shared account, though, is that it undermines the foundation of privacy on which The City's groups are based. Each group functions under an umbrella of built-in confidentiality. When you share an account with a spouse, even if that group communication seems like something you'd share with them personally, it limits what your group members are free to share with one another. This is particularly important in recovery groups, prayer groups, and small groups that might be women or men only.
